Jewelry - Care

It is best to keep your jewelry in a cool dry place.  A good jewelry box will keep precious items in excellent condition with little care.

But there are times when your sterling silver jewelry will tarnish.  It may be from humidity, exposure to sulfur and other chemical reactions.  If this occurs, you do not have to discard them.

A simple non-chemical recipe will restore them to a like-new sparkle and shine.

Combine 1/2 cup of powdered milk, 1 1/2 cups of water and 1 Tbs of white vinegar in a bowl.  Place silver inside bowl.  Let sit overnight to 24 hours.  Then rinse with warm water and dry with a clean cloth.

The combination of fatty acids in the dairy product and acetic acid in white vinegar dissolves the tarnish stains.

Do not use this recipe on your pearls or stone surface enhancements, it may damage from the acids.  I recommend seeing a professional.
